Lagos, Nigeria, Africa— Waithood – a period of stagnation in the lives of young people, and a state of dependency for youth. The etymology of this word “waithood” is a combination of “wait” and “adulthood”. That is, derived from waiting period during the transition of childhood to adulthood.
Owing to socio-economic and political marginalization, millions of youth has been restricted and denied the future opportunity they desire. By age, they’ve marked the status of adulthood, but responsibility wise, they cannot perform the task of an adult. –pay taxes, establish family, produce offspring, earn a living etc.
The sudden awareness of youth to this awkward occurrence which has been living with many for years has change youth passivity to youth riot, protest and aggression in African and the rest of the world. But
this aggressiveness has never brought about any structural and effective change to the socio-economic life’s of youth.
It is against this background, Business Without Boundaries (BwB) together with 360Connect are co-creating and co-innovating #BRANDYOURWAITHOOD to address the increasing numbers of waithood in young people that youth are facing today. Their major objective is to equip the average youth and policy makers with knowledge and skills to kindle positive change, self-development, inclusive leadership and sustainable growth.
#BrandYourWaithood has a thematic focus which is subjected to this four key areas: Waithood in Education, Career, Social Inclusions, Leadership & Politics. This will bring a new approach to combining waithood petition and challenges to create more awareness of waithood in communities with strategic innovative solutions to waithood on a robust platform both online and offline. We will also implement strategic 6 E’s Innovative Solutions Framework – Education, Empowerment, Engagement, Enlightenment, Employability and Entrepreneurship.
The #BrandYourWaithood will transforms how information is leveraged among youth, moving away from helplessness and dependency view. #BrandYourWaithood will enable a broad base of young ones to rebrand their own personal waithood perspectives stories on all structured and unstructured petition and challenges.
The end result will provide agile and relevant analytical insight to a broad community of policy stakeholder in government, International developers, CSO’s whose work focus on youth advocacy and through real-time technology, integrate those insights directly into youth policy processes, empowerment programs and youth inclusiveness.
